Haven't read your mail before I replied. At least it might "nurse" the
HDD. I don't think that there will be e difference for the performance.

FWIW an example (and because of this HTML):

/dev/sda11				  /mnt/music	  ext3	  noatime,defaults    0       2
/dev/sdb12				  /home/music	  ext4	  noatime,defaults    0       2

So just add "noatime" to the entries in /etc/fstab.
