While not commenting on the report, try using the 'J' and 'K' shortcuts to
trim the region (J == trim start to edit point, K == Trim end to edit
point).

I usually do this anyways myself as I find it quicker to be able to
trim/split/etc using the keyboard shortcuts combined with the appropriate
edit point.
