bounce produces a "freezed" region in the region list, i.e. it saves 
what's currently going on, but doesn't change anything in the editor 
window.
"consolidate" takes a range (which can span many different short 
regions) and renders it to a new region which immediately replaces the 
old stuff in the editor.

both options can include automation and plugins ("with processing").
