Hi John

Thanks for your response. "Autoconnect inputs to physical inputs" was 
enabled.

Sadly, switching it to manual did not stop Ardour disconnecting from 
Jack when I tried to create a new track.

The funny thing is, I haven't been saving the sessions when Ardour gets 
kicked out, yet when I re-open them not only is the new track still 
there (hurrah for auto-save I guess), but it IS connected to the master 
bus, which I wouldn't have expected.
