I'm sorry, but I have to say it:  Just exactly what is 'wrong' sound?  You will get as many answers as there are sound engineers; there really is no such thing as SOUNDING wrong if it's carrying the sound the engineer/artist intends it to carry.  

This is like telling people that you need only axes and no chainsaws because the chainsaw has more potential for disaster....  Someone has a desire for the EQ equivalent of a chainsaw; ok, why that is is really irrelevant, and questioning the engineer's knowledge of what the chainsaw is going to do is really arrogant.  None of us here on this list have any real idea of any other user's actual experience and knowledge level; just because an engineer doesn't use the so-called 'consensus' tools to get a desired result does not mean that engineer doesn't know just exactly what that engineer is doing.
