A weekend intensive workshop! Students will get a basic practical understanding of tools and techniques used for the composition of sample-based electronic music. No music theory background necessary. Hands-on lab sessions with (mostly) open source tools: Audacity, Ardour, MaxMSP, cataRT, Pd, timbreID. Challenge yourself to compose a short track by the of the weekend! Example of topics to be covered: sampling, collage techniques, composing and recycling music, musical borrowing and ownership, copyright alternatives (Copyleft and Creative Commons).
