For those in the Bay Area, I will be teaching this weekend-intensive intro to sample-based electronic music composition on November 13-14, 2010. Ardour will be on the menu. Please spread the word to anyone who might be interested!

Intellectual Impropriety: an electronic music workshop for beginners to intermediate level students.

A weekend intensive workshop! Students will get a basic practical understanding of tools and techniques used for the composition of sample-based electronic music. No music theory background necessary. Hands-on lab sessions with (mostly) open source tools: Audacity, Ardour, MaxMSP, cataRT, Pd, timbreID. Challenge yourself to compose a short track by the of the weekend! Example of topics to be covered: sampling, collage techniques, composing and recycling music, musical borrowing and ownership, copyright alternatives (Copyleft and Creative Commons).
