Plans for using payable hardware for do it you self might unwanted reach 
the state of the Yamaha AWs that some time ago costs around 4,000 up to 
around 10,000 DM and that today are given away for less than 200,- €. 
There's a fine line between something useful and something completely 
useless. You shouldn't watch out to home studios, if you've got the 
knowledge to develop such equipment. I had those Yamaha stuff and didn't 
like it and seemingly a lot of people didn't like it. I don't think that 
for home studios any do it yourself stuff of that kind is useful, while 
even commercial solutions are flops.
