I think you VASTLY misjudge the number of people who use pirated audio
software of the Cubase or Sonar class of software.  I know many people
around here who use either Cubase or (mostly) Sonar.  All of them either
bought the full version, or are using an OEM version that came with some
audio interface or another.  The script-kiddie types simply have no idea
what Sonar or Cubase do, and have absolutely no use for them.  Besides,
compared to the many thousands of dollars building and operating a
studio for a year costs, the $500 cost of Sonar (for example) isn't
going to make any noticeable difference in tax liability, especially
depreciated over 5 years.

The difference being, of course, that if people like the microphone,
they HAVE to pay for it to continue using it.  If they could make a copy
at no cost, his method may not be as profitable.
