The voicing (ie the sound, timbre, tone what have you) of vocals and
instruments sounds fine. That's an important first step where lots of
things can and do go wrong: poor instruments, bad playing, recording
techniques, etc. I think you can sing. However the whole thing sounds a
bit flat. I'm not sure why. I know the piece is supposed to sound smooth
but it maybe needs a bit more snap here and there to make it sound all
the smoother... It's what I think of as the rule of contrasts. If you
want to paint the greenest, green painting of some green thing on a
green background as a meditation on green, it looks even greener with
just a spot of red somewhere off centre. Not enough to unbalance the
composition but just enough to create points of contrast.

As you say though it's not really fair to judge a first take as if it
were a final cut. Good stuff.
