hdspmixer for Linux is not supplied by RME. It was created by Thomas
Charbonell. Unfortunately Thomas no longer seems to be involved in
Linux audio so there isn't any active support for it that I know of. I
use it with my hdsp9652 successfully, but I've been running it for 3
or more years now.

I doubt it, but it could be. What happens if you start hdspmixer to
get audio going and then close the mixer before turning on the
Octopre? Does it still crash? IF so it's not the mixer but more likely
something in the hdsp9652 driver. If that was the case then possibly
Paul Davis or someone else involved in the development of that driver
would take a look.

I would also suggest running hdspconf before starting the mixer and
watching it carefully. Bad clocks can make the hdsp9652 config
settings jump around and hdspconf might show that. Once everything is
running start the Octopre with hdspconf running and see if you get
some clues.
