[ardour-users] A decent sound card for Ardour

Thanks to everyone who helped me to get my sound card to work
with Ubuntu (I'm using an RME Hammerfall HDSP 9632). For reasons
not connected with the sound card, I've decided to abandon Ubuntu and
try something else (OpenSuse 10.2). I've been using OpenSuse for the
past 10 days and I feel much more comfortable with it than I ever felt with
Ubuntu. As luck would have it though, the only thing I haven't been able to
get working is (you guessed it..) my sound card..! I installed hdspmixer,
like I had to do with Ubuntu - but whenever I try to play a sound, a message
pops up saying "Audio Output Unavailable - Device Is Busy". So far, I've
tried Kaffeine and Amarok as my playback devices and I get the same
message with both.
I found this web page:-
http://www.novell.com/documentation/opensuse102/index.html?page=/documentation/opensuse102/opensuse102_reference/data/sec_update_version.html
which says that I need to change the default mixer from kmix (which is
apparently preset by default) to hdspmixer - but it doesn;t give any
indication of how to do that. Does anyone here happen to know??
Thanks,
John
