no, it has nothing to do with that.
the output of:
fuser /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p
or
fuser /dev/snd/pcmC1D0p
(depending on whether the HDSP9632 is the first or second audio device
in /proc/asound/cards)
should be instructive. if you don't fuser installed, then there are some
other things to try.
you probably have another sound daemon or application running that has
the device open. this is rather typical of SuSE.
