I agree with you here, but this is not the way it's going right now.

To enable default GTK theme override, issue: 

ARDOUR_UI_RC=/dev/null ardour 

I think we need to work the other way around. I would also like to use
the default theme and then fix the things that are broke with it.

In any case, we would need a special theme for the canvas
