Ah, it seems that with:

1) Hardware monitoring disabled
2) Software monitoring enabled
3) With Auto-Input disabled
4) With the track record putton pressed

I do get what guitar audio with both the transport stopped or rolling.

Groovy!

This would work well for punch in also, I suppose.
