E-mail vs forums is a matter of taste, not objective reasoning.
Personally i like the lists as they get to me "automatically" in a way that
forums never will. Most mails are just browsed before I archive them but it
gives me a hint of what's going on. If this was a forum I'd just check it
when I had a specific question and thus would miss many of the hints that
come this way. Forums in my opinion require users to be more active and that
would mean that lazy people like me would be lost.
E-mail storage and retrieval is also just a technical issue that is
solvable. Myself I use gmail that is nowhere near to be filled by the
ardour-related traffic. If I want to find mails that is older than my
membership, it's easy to search the archives as well.
