[ardour-users] Advice on Ardour

Hi,

I think that two things will be important.

1. Obviously, there is the question of replacement software tools. ALSA
drivers, JACK, Ardour and LADSPA plugins should be able to do
effectively the same jobs as ASIO, Nuendo, VST, etc. The difficulty here
is learning the new tools and methods.

2. Also, hardware support will be significant. I'm in a rush right now,
so can't check your email again, sorry, but I don't remember whether or
not you said what hardware your friend currently has, or whether he'd be
willing to invest in something else.

For as many inputs and outputs as you talk of, he would be wise to go
with an RME soundcard. As far as I know, that is the simplest and most
reliable way of getting many high quality audio inputs/outputs in Linux.

Regards
Michael
