i am also a minimal plugin user, and am normally plugin-free on most 
tracks, so i would not tend to use the sort of template i described, but 
i suggested it on the assumption that a bypassed plugin does NOT 
substantially load the session. i suppose you're right that it must be 
held in memory, at least, since it can be enabled during playback, but 
surely it doesn't eat cpu cycles when bypassed.

perhaps paul would care to address the issue of memory/cpu usage by 
bypassed plugins.
