Performance shouldn't be bad at all.  I'm using MDK 10.1 and Ardour 
0.99.  I'm using a multi-media kernel.  It used to be you could get 
those from the Thac's RPM repository, and set that up with urpmi.  It 
wasn't too hard.  Best-o-luck....
