It is pretty bad that this happens. And it shouldn't. 
Can you give more specific information about what you were doing when the 
error occured?
What was the last thing you did?
It would be really nice if you or anybody else could find a reproducible way 
to cause this problem. One known bug is that trying to use non-ascii 
characters in names will cause xml corruption. F.i. if you renamed a region 
or a track to something that has an accented letter or any non-ascii 
character.
Hopefully this will be fixed soon, but that doesn't help you now :(


If it happens ,one thing you can always try to do is to rename the 
session_name.ardour.bak to session_name.ardour and try opening that. It 
should contain the previous version.
