[ardour-users] compatibility and setup

Hello,

 Is ardour in general a good resource for learning how to implement playback of
multiple audio streams syncronized to a time-line? I currently am running mac
OSX with digidesigns mBox, but am going to switch to linux.  I don't know which
distribution  of linux to get with which sound card (i don't think mBox will
work) that will enable me to implement and syncronize playback of multiple
audio tracks composed of my own audio files.
