if ardour is slaved to MIDI clock, it will pay attention to MIDI Song
Position Pointer messages. It will ignore them otherwisel.

You mentioned "synced externally via JACK", so ardour is ignoring MIDI SPP,
and is using jack transport to determine where it should be. If the other
DAW (unnamed, why?) is the transport master, then it needs to set the new
position ....
