A generic icon might mean that the windows explorer sees a file whose name ends in .exe but cannot read the resources contained in the .exe file (that contain the icons). Which might mean that the file cannot be read or is damaged.

On my system once a progress opened a object file preventing write access and deletion to this file and it did never close it again. One candidate would be the virus scanner. But there might be indexer services, perhaps an software inventory tool that crashes reproducibly while scanning ardour.

In this case uninstalling ardour, then manually deleting any leftover file or folder and reinstalling might be needed...
