I personally think it depends in what one is trying to achieve. My target is to have a semi-pro setup to do some live recordings in rehearsal room and possibly a preproduction.

So I believe ADAs would be enough and I haven't had a broken power supply in an ADA8000 yet - and they are present, so nothing to buy. Sometime I will grade up to another ADAT unit.

I now ordered a cardbus to expresscard adapter for the digiface cardbus card to try it in my Lenovo T420 i7 notebook.
It's a startech adapter which was reported as working ootb with RME hdsp cardbus.
