In my experience the Focusrite analog stages and converters are better 
than the ADA8000, although I haven't measured them.
(Haven't used a 18i20 yet, but I did use the old Pro26 and the Liquid 56 
for professional recording, although for critical signals I had two 
Micstasies hooked up to their ADAT ports. I was never annoyed by the the 
Focusrite preamps. That said, I'm also not a person to be inspired by a 
preamp, I just want something that does the job correctly.)

The ADA8000 are fine in all except noise and reliability of the PSU (the 
latter has been fixed in the successor model, ADA8200 IIRC).
