For the sake of gathering more opinions:

Before the invaluable time of the Ardour devs is invested in writing and 
maintaining cross-platform plug-ins, I'd rather prefer enhancing the DAW 
itself.

As captured by recent discussions, there /are/ plug-ins with a 
reasonable quality out there. Some libre, some free, some both, some 
neither nor.
(I liked the idea of having a Web platform with structured information, 
rankings etc. about plug-ins – go for it! :)).

The tracker is full of thrilling feature suggestions and also some 
issues that can be sorted out.
Ardour can experience an even more wide-spread acceptance when 
supporting more workflows.

Despite our missionary skills that are required.
