Calf simply moved away from using the Fastest Fourier Transform in the
West and uses some homebrew FFT instead.

The actual issue is still being worked on. Many other plugins as well as
ardour itself use fftw3. https://github.com/FFTW/fftw3/issues/16

While there is the choice of using special built of fftw3 and statically
linking plugins until upstream fftw addresses the issue, doing so is not
really an option for large generic GNU/Linux distributions (duplicating
libs is generally a waste of manpower, possibly insecure and may
interfere with policy).

As far as I know, KXStudio is the only distribution that works around
fftw issues in plugin builds (but that's a dedicated studio distro, not
a general purpose one).
