That's what I thought but I left the door open for some hidden trick I
would not know about.

I think some of the 3.x versions had a debug suffix. Yes, I can
install a debug version of 440, no problem.

Are the nightly builds gone to the new compiler now, preventing the use
of most, all plugins that were not compiled with the same version of
gcc ?
I have spare time, but there's a limit. Getting into all the
details of compiling Ardour is where it stops, unfortunately.
