Maybe the user is requesting the encapaulation of that copy command into a menu item?

cp -r $SESSION/interchange/$SESSION/midifiles /a/safe/place


they are just SMF (Standard MIDI File) format. No need for any export mechanism. Every other app that can read SMF can read these.
