[Ardour-Users] (Supposed) MIDI workflow with A3

Yup, I end up having a MIDI track, a bus, and an audio track for each
external synth (jack or physical module).

I route them as follows:

MIDI Kbd --> MIDI track --> Synth --> Audio Bus --> Audio track -->
Master...
                                                 \________________/

There you have the effects on the bus, and you can record everything on the
audio track to make it easy for the PC to play (disabling the bus
and MIDI track afterwards).

It works but I have to say, that's a bit cumbersome...

BUT I've just had an idea!!

What if we create a new LV2 plug-in that is a wrapper for external synths?

I know Ardour3 can take LV2 virtual instruments like Calf Organ, which have
a MIDI input (you put them on MIDI tracks) and have audio output, making the
track behave as an audio track. The new plug-in would route its MIDI input
to a jack port, and will have a jack audio input port to bring the synth
output back into the Ardour track.

What do you think about that idea? Are there users interested in such a
solution?
