but to try the available development version, you don't have to understand the 
process of packaging or be able to create that directory with needed files 
yourself. you just have to unpack it, as i explained earlier, it should even 
work fine without *any* changes.

of course your argument holds if a package wasn't debianized at all yet (i've 
maintained packages and even set up repos before, i know how messy things can 
be ;-) i found it all rather well documented, though). however, recent 
versions of jack2 already are, so i'd say one should just make use of it.
