joerg, just a shot in the dark: are you runnning jconvolver? it is known 
to barf in freewheeling mode, for some people, under some conditions.

in any case, as a temporary workaround, you could use timemachine to 
record your session in real time, or alternatively bounce to another 
ardour stereo track and then convert those files to your desired target 
format on the command line (sox -M or "merge" is your friend).

ralf, these guys are talking about export, which runs in freewheeling 
mode. there are no xruns in freewheeling mode. stop spreading confusion.
