[Ardour-Users] help needed to ascertain a MIDI design question

Hi,

Cubase SX 2 also lets you overlap notes. The event view show both notes with
overlaping duration.

Saved it as .mid (attached) and opened in Rosegarden 10.02 and it showed the
same, both in the piano roll and in the event list. Also monitored the midi
output using KMidiMon and saw both note on and both note off events (4
events) all in the same channel.

Moved them around in both DAWs and none of the notes affected the other, no
matter which one came first or which one was longer. Non destructive editing
in both. Same channel in both.

I think this is the best behaviour. Its intuitive and you get nondestructive
editing. I think there are no playback issues, since repeated note on events
souldn't be a problem and the first note off kills the note, while
subsecuent ones just don't do anything. Allways there is a note of at the
end so no neverending notes can appear.

Hope it helps :)
