sure, but the zero crossing points (a) don't (typically) exist as actual
editable points (b) have no unique properties because the slope is
unconstrained by the "zero crossingness".

so edits at zero crossings are actually edits at abitrary (though likely
small) sample values adjacent to arbitrary slope values. not much of a
winner there.
