[Ardour-Users] Can anyone help with a Linux problem ?

Drat..!  Moving the gnome folders didn't help.  Also, whilst
"gnome-session-properties --help" seems to work, attempting to run
gnome-session-properties with any of its options results in a critical error
about not being able to connect to the X server (maybe I should have used
sudo - didn't think of that).  Anyway....

Funnily enough, although you said your wife uses Gentoo, this sounds exactly
like the problem that caused me to abandon Ubuntu.  Every few months it
would boot up to a totally blank screen (orange, in Ubuntu's case).  No
icons, no mouse cursor, no launch bar, nothing.  Just a totally blank
screen.  The only 'fix' I ever found was to restore a previously backed up
partition.  But 3 or 4 months later the same thing would happen again.

Yes, I think I'll do that tomorrow.  For now I'm afraid I've got to go and
cook some dinner!!  Thanks everyone for all your help.  I've got plenty of
ideas to try out tomorrow.
