There are several writings on setting up linux for reliable audio
performance. It takes some work, especially for distributions like Ubuntu.

This feature was requested, sponsored, and implemented into A3 I believe, so
when that comes out. Not only that but gain automation can be drawn with
the gain automation tool on the region itself in the 2.x series.
