[Ardour-Users] Mute buttons don't work (2.8.1/F11)

this is another problem. they actually should be all toggled on by 
default (at least it is here the case...). what happens if you start a 
brand new session?
or what happens if you rename your .ardour2 file into something like 
.ardour-old and than start a new session?

...ok i found it now! it is stored in the file 
/usr/local/etc/ardour2/ardour_system.rc in exactly this lines:

......
 <Config>
    <Option name="minimum-disk-io-bytes" value="262144"/>
    <Option name="track-buffer-seconds" value="5.000000"/>
    <Option name="mute-affects-pre-fader" value="yes"/>
    <Option name="mute-affects-post-fader" value="yes"/>
    <Option name="mute-affects-control-outs" value="yes"/>
    <Option name="mute-affects-main-outs" value="yes"/>
.....

so if yours looks different, just copy and paste the 'mute-affects....' 
lines into the file and it shoud work.
perhaps the best way would be to remove the hole /usr/local/etc/ardour2/ 
directory and reinstall ardour, but i don't know about F11, so other 
people might know to give you the right advice here.
