No. But the minute, or rather the ms you need to have hosted plugins or like 
ardour's mixer in your monitoring path (for live headphone mixes) you'd go 
for low latency.

It does. Plus if your external signal path has digital stages and therefore 
latency too you'd want to measure that with jdelay from fons' 
http://www.kokkinizita.net/linuxaudio/ and specify it to jackd via -I and -O.
