Make sure you don't have any regions that are beyond where you have put the
end marker.  This includes regions that are part of a tape track, if you
happen to be using one of those.  I have had similar problems, but it only
happens when Ardour resets the end marker to be at the end of all regions,
and I had regions that were forcing it to be far out.

Not sure that is your problem, just something to check.
