Just a word on that,

If you can filter out unwanted bass *before* the soundcard's
analog-to-digital converters, you will probably leave more dynamic range
available to get a good quality recording out.  So it might be
preferable to filter before the soundcard.  However, the effects of the
filter would then be irreversible, unlike a plugin in Ardour which could
be removed and changed at any time.
