My guess is that you're suffering from crosstalk.  It's remarkably common
when mixing music tracks but in my experience it's always caused by a
hardware problem (often, unbalanced inputs or outputs).  It's a bit strange
though, that it should only happen during crossfades.  Are these snippets
LOUD - or just quiet, in the background?

To eliminate your hardware, it might be worth sending a small section of the
project to someone else and seeing if they also get the same problem.
