I only record 8 channels at once with my Delta 1010. But, I
have managed to play 71 channels of 16-bit, 44.1kHz audio at one
time. When I naively started trying to play that much I would
get errors about my disk not keeping up. But, after 4-5 attempts
enough of the audio must have been cached that I didn't get any
more pesky messages about the disk through the remainder of the 5
minute song.

I did this with a 2GHz Celeron, 1GB of RAM, a 200GB Seagate
Baracuda hard drive, Mandrake 10.1, ardour 0.99.3, JACK
something, and a multimedia kernel. That's my old machine. Now
I have an Athlon 64-X2 4400+ with 1GB of RAM and a bigger Seagate
drive, running Mandriva 2007.0, ardour 2.0.3, and JACK 0.102.5
with a multimedia kernel. I haven't pushed the new machine hard
yet.

G'luck....
