I like the 4-band parametric EQ from the FIL-plugins package 
(http://users.skynet.be/solaris/linuxaudio/).  I'm not really familiar 
with "classic" consoles...

The automatically generated plugin GUIs do tend to be awkward, especially 
for plugins with lots of parameters & sets of parameters that should be 
logically grouped together, like EQs..  Also, with a parametric EQ it would 
be handy to see a graph of the filter's frequency response in the GUI.

That site lists custom GUIs as a planned extension.
