I have 2.6.16-rt22 working fine on my AthlonXP. (Gentoo Gcc 4.1.0)
The only IO scheduler compiled in is 'deadline'.

#
# IO Schedulers
#
CONFIG_IOSCHED_NOOP=y
# CONFIG_IOSCHED_AS is not set
CONFIG_IOSCHED_DEADLINE=y
# CONFIG_IOSCHED_CFQ is not set
# CONFIG_DEFAULT_AS is not set
CONFIG_DEFAULT_DEADLINE=y
# CONFIG_DEFAULT_CFQ is not set
# CONFIG_DEFAULT_NOOP is not set
CONFIG_DEFAULT_IOSCHED="deadline"

The Gentoo pro-audio overlay is a fine thing isn't it?
Respect is due to those who put it together.
