In December (2005), Paul Davis said:
..........the problem is that the TSC (cycle counter) is not synced on
systems, so software which uses the cycle counter to provide lightweight
(single instruction) high resolution timing in user space can get a
garbled (and possibly fatal) idea of the current time. its caused by CPU
speed adjustments due to power management.
there are fixes for JACK floating around and destined to appear in CVS
soon that will avoid the problem. go ahead and buy the system you want.
Is this still true, and if so, when will the "fix" be available?
Also, I'm told that Nvidia cards are the best around for Linux, but that
Nvidia and SMP machines with Ingo Molnar's realtime preemption
kernel patch don't work together, is this true? If it is, what graphics
card with dual monitor outputs AND S-Video out would you recommend?
