[ardour-users] Getting started

I have on order a delta1010LT and should be expecting it soon so I have 
a few questions.

How do I set it up as my default sound card and keep it that way every 
time I reboot?

I have heard of a low latency patch and real time patch.  Where can I 
find those if I need them and how hard are they to install?

I am current setup is
Vida Linux 1.2 (fork of gentoo)
Kernel 2.6.12-rc3-vidalinux3
Athlon 2600+
650MB Ram
Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS

Any help would be greatly appreciated
