I've been looking for the same thing, and came up with this:
- ardour
- hydrogen
- seq24 (0.6.0+ with jack sync)
- specimen sampler
- zynaddsubfx softsynth

This should pretty much replace fruityloops' features, although it's 
abit more complex setup.

It shure is fun, though!
