I'm taking a Linux in Multimedia class at my university... it's been 
pretty cool, even with the steep learning curve with Linux and general 
getting-stuff-to-work frustrations.  Ardour has been one of the easiest 
programs to work with, and thank heavens the session files are pretty 
coherently put together! :)
