Yes. VSTs show up in the chooser dialog for redirects and can be added 
to a route in the same way that LADSPAs are. Ardour/VST interaction 
(Parameter automation, de/activation) is the same.

The variety in VST GUIs tends to suck so much that you will probably be 
very happy and thankful about any LADSPA equivalent though.
