My ardour.rc says in part:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<Ardour>
  <MIDI-port tag="hw:0" device="/dev/snd/midiC0D0" type="alsa/raw" mode="duplex"/>
  <Config>
    <Option name="mtc-port" value="hw:0"/>
    <Option name="jack-time-master" value="yes"/>
    <Option name="jack-transport-master" value="yes"/>
    <Option name="stop-at-session-end" value="yes"/>
  </Config>

When I start ardour I see this in my xterm:

Ardour/GTK 0.446.0 running with libardour 0.724.0
Loading UI configuration file /etc/ardour/ardour_ui.rc
Loading system configuration file /etc/ardour/ardour_system.rc
Loading user configuration file /home/kevinc/.ardour/ardour.rc
MIDI: MTC on port hw:0 MMC on port hw:0

That looks to me like an MTC port is defined. Now I can define
the Sync Source as MTC(SMPTE) in the options editor. I still need to
see if the hardware actually syncs, but this would appear to be
pretty good progress.

Thanks all!
