You can't because Ardour doesn't do any destructive
processing. It's possible to manually or with
automation perform a fade on a track while a different
track has its inputs set to the track where the fade
occurs. Then record on the new track.

Automation is getting much better so if bugs were
preventing its use maybe you could try again.

Oh, another method; use automation to create the fade
event and then Export Selection.

Leave Object mode by entering Range mode. Then use the
mouse to select from a region.

Then you can Export Selection for that specific
selection.
